Presenting the Mirage Bastone
Several months ago Jeroen Veldkamp, well-known Dutch barista, asked for a semi-automatic version of the Mirage. As he had seen and tried the small bumper-sprung levers we did on some of the old Mistrals, he insisted on a similar system.

This time we installed the rubber bumpers inside the machine on a special bracket. The small rod pokes through the front panel. This inspired us to call this version “Bastone”, Italian for stick or rod.
Naturally all is done in stainless. Bracket and rod are suitable for heavy duty use. You can actually keep on slamming these levers, they are morning-rush-proof.
When hitting the lever, a switch, mounted above the lever, actuates a large relay which in turn activates the pump, the group solenoid and the small green indicating light above the lever. When hitting the lever again, everything is switched off.
Because the main brain with touch panels is deleted, a smaller brain is installed to monitor the level inside the main boiler. Next to the level probe this also contains the long security probe. When the long probe does not “feel” a minimum amount of water the heating element and hot water function are automatically switched off.
Next to the small brain a separate adjustable timer activates the pump and the solenoids on the mixing manifold when the button switch on the front panel is hit.
In a short while we received many enthusiastic reactions on this machine.
This made us decide to offer the Bastone as a regular option on the Mirage.
